UMUC IFSM300 stage 4 2015

| June 4, 2016

Question
Before you begin this assignment, you will need to complete all weekly readings through week 7 and review the UMUC Haircuts Case Study. You may wish to review the “IT Solution and Next Steps (Stage 4)” found on page 7 of the Walmart Example; however, do not copy the format as one is provided Assignment section of this document.

Purpose of this Assignment

This assignment gives you the opportunity to apply the concepts of this course to address the selection, planning, development, implementation and on-going management of a technology solution for the UMUC Haircuts business. This assignment specifically addresses the following course outcome to enable you to:

?identify and plan IT solutions that meet business objectives

Overview of Stage 4 – Annotated Outline of the Next Steps for UMUC Haircuts

When we started the semester, you performed a Five Forces Analysis and recommended a strategy for competitive advantage, and the business process.Myra chose to use Customer Orientation as the strategy and selected Customer and Employee Scheduling as the business process.

Since UMUC Haircuts is a small business, Myra should take advantage of a Software as a Service (SaaS) or cloud-based system that has already been developed and is maintained and operated by a vendor. You should do some research and find a vendor-provided solution that will support the process that is being improved. Refer to the process model and your Stage 2 inputs, processing and outputs that define the business requirements; and refer to your Stage 3 IT requirements as you select an appropriate solution. Consider the cost of the solution as you make your choice, so that your recommended solution will be affordable for Myra.

In Stage 2, you identified a potential technology solution that you felt would help UMUC Haircuts achieve the strategy for competitive advantage, and selected business process. As a result of your recommendations, Myra selected BookedIN a cloud based,Software as a Service (SaaS) vendor.

In Stage 3, you identified the IT requirements by evaluating their applicability and importance in a new system to be implemented to improve the identified business process for UMUC Haircuts.

Now in Stage 4, you will prepare an annotated outline of the implementation of that solution. The next steps will include: project management, risk management, change management, system development life cycle, training and measurements of success as they apply to the process being improved and the proposed IT solution.

Assignment: Outline of IT Solution and Next Steps

Your annotated outline will define and explain the next steps in your implementation of an IT solution for UMUC Haircuts.

I. Introduction

a. Project Description:

i. Show the strategy for competitive advantage, business process and technology solution that Myra has selected using the following format:

1. Strategy for Competitive Advantage: xxxxxxx (just name the strategy)

2. Business Process to Improve: xxxxxxx (just name the process)

3. Technology Solutions: xxxxxxx (just name the product)

b. Provide an introduction that explains what you are going to cover in stage 4.

II. Project Management – the system implementation is a small scale project, but it still requires project management, especially in the areas listed below.

a. Triple constraints –

i. Identify and explain each of the triple constraints.

ii. Explain how Myra can control the constraints while implementing the system.

b. Human Resource management –

i. Identify who Myra should involve in implementing the system and what function each would perform.

III. Risk management –

a. Identify the major risks associated with your proposed solution and what should be done to mitigate those risks (prevent them from occurring).

b. You should include at least three risks (business risks, technical risks, project risks, security risks or implementation risks, etc.) and corresponding mitigation strategies.

IV. Change Management

a. Technical Change Management

i. Explain what technical change management is and how Myra can use it to ensure a successful implementation.

b. Organizational Change Management

i. Explain what organizational change management is and what steps Myra will need to take to ensure project success.

V. Employee Training –

a. Explain the training that employees will need to use the new system effectively, and how and when it will be conducted.

VI. Defining Success –

a. Identify at least three areas that can be “measured” to determine if the process has been improved and other ways that Myra will know if the IT solution has helped her business (do not include meeting the schedule as this does not measure the success in relation to the business).

b. Create a metric for each of the three areas you identified as measurable.

4/21/2015

VII. System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) – even though Myra is implementing a system that has already been developed and is in use by other small businesses, the phases of the SDLC still apply as there are things Myra should consider or do in each phase.

a. Since the SDLC is a framework, there are different methodologies that a project can use. Identify which methodology Myra should use to successfully implement her project.

b. For each SDLC phase, explain what Myra needs to do to implement your proposed solution.

i. System Investigation

1. Since this phase was completed as part of stage 1; you should explain what took place and the outcome of the investigation.

ii. System Analysis

1. This phase was completed in stage 2 and 3; you should explain what took place and the decisions that were made.

iii. System Design

1. You should explain what design decisions that make and identify some terminology that applies. This should be in relation to the product identified in stage 3.

iv. Programming or System Configuration

1. Identify what steps will need to be completed and who will be implementing them. This should be in relation to the product identified in stage 3. v.Testing

1.Describe what kind of testing will need to be conducted and who will perform it. This should be in relation to the product identified in stage 3.

vi.Implementation

1.Describe how the project will move the product from testing into production and the roles that should be performed. Ask yourself if there are any activities that must take place before the product is operational. vii.Operations and Maintenance

1.Now that the project has moved into the operational phase, describe what Myra will need to know to support the product.

Incorporate at least one external resource (NOTE: two or more external resources are required to receive all possible points) into your paper on an area of your choice. An external resource is a resource other than those provided in the class or text book. Incorporate a properly formatted APA citation in the text of your document. Then, place an APA style list of resources in this section.

Formatting:

For academic writing, the writer should write in the third person; this means that the writer avoids pronouns such as: I, we, my, and ours. This method is very helpful for academic writing, a form in which facts, not opinions, and drives the tone of the text to be more objective since it takes the individual, the “self,” out of the writing. Writing in the third person allows the writer to come across as unbiased and thus more informed.

• Write a short concise outline: 3-4 pages of content.

• An annotated outline provides the basic information in full sentences, but in outline form rather than in paragraph form.

• You should provide all the important facts, without the expanded discussions used in full papers.

4/21/2015

• Each entry should be single spaced; double spacing should be used between entries, as shown on the assignment outline above.

• Make sure all entries in your annotated outline are complete sentences.

• If you need to use multiple sentences for an entry, use the outline format and list them individually. Do not write paragraphs or more than one sentence per outline entry.

• Use at least one external resources with APA formatted citation and reference.

• Include a title page and a reference page.

• Compare your final work to the rubric to be sure you have met content and quality criteria.

• Submit your paper as a Word document, or a document that can be read in Word.

• Your submission should include your last name first in the filename: Lastname_firstname_Stage _4
