strock Patients’ and family’ transition from hospital to home: needs and recommendations
Order Description
– narrow the question and make it more emphasizing and clear.
– use PICO formate to formulate question
then please follow the guidelines of the module
1) The assignment is to prepare a research proposal for a topic of your choice.
There are no other options.
5000 words (excluding references) – and now it is electronic submission, so the word count matters.

2) Since the module is Research Methods, most of the marks are to be won in the section on STUDY DESIGN. Don’t spend too long (ie time preparing and words in the assignment) on the lit review.

3) It is a little artificial, but as a means to demonstrate understanding of research methods, you are expected to include a lot of referring to the research methods literature. (Don’t be tempted to fill it up with clinical references.)

4) As you know, the taught sessions are planned to take you through the research process in the right order – the same order in which you should write the assignment.

5) I would have MAIN HEADINGS and Sub-Headings to help with the structure.

6) No need for an abstract. No need for appendices, either, usually.

7) It is up to you, but this is a rough guide to how I would structure it. (…and I will be marking it.)
What the topic is (and perhaps what it isn’t): 1- state the main aim/s of the study 2- Define the study variables that are mentioned in the topic. 3- describe the size of the problem.

Why it matters. Perhaps why it matters now: 1- mention the main background findings. 2- write the problem statement (why your research will be worth doing) 3-write about the important of achieving the objectives of your study locally or globally. 4- absent or lack of locally conducted researches.

The policy context – current government/DH/DfE agendas: 1- does your work place required more information about your topic that triggered the need for your research?. 2- does the government has an agenda that you can connect to your research work?.

If there is no policy context or governmental agendas in your country, use other countries policies and/or agendas (UK is preferred)

Possibly – what your engagement is with the topic. 1- Do you have any personal experiences made you think of conducting a study regarding this topic.

Maybe 1425 words – !
Search Strategy
Which databases you used and why these: 1-write the name of the databases you used and state why you used them. 2- if possible, write the name of a scientific journal/s you used and why.3- mention that you used the references of your included literature.

The search terms used. (Boolean operators?): 2-write the search terms you used to search for your literature. 2- describe how you used Boolean operators to combine the search terms.

Boolean Operators are simple words (AND, OR, NOT or AND NOT) used as conjunctions to combine or exclude keywords in a search, resulting in more focused and productive results.

Inclusion / exclusion criteria (eg: last 10 years. Only research reports. Only children/adults/aliens): 1- what are the inclusion criteria you required to accept the articles to be in your study?.
2- what are the exclusion criteria you required to refuse the articles to be in your study?.

Outcomes of the search – number of articles found / relevant.: State that you used CASP tools to guide the appraisal of the articles (or something else like this).
1- Overall, how many articles you found from all your searches [search engines/journals/references]. 2- after reading them and using CASP tools how many of them left to be included.

Literature review

Report the outcome of your review under (say) three major sub-headings, Just to make it easier for the reader to understand and easier for you to focus your findings.

Example: Suppose that left-handedness (using the left hand as a dominant hand), gender differences, and participation were three big issues considered in the literature. Use these as sub-headings and discuss whatever evidence fits within these.

Try to add 1 critical comment about the method for each article that you include. The sample was too small. The wrong approach was taken to data collection for this population. Great efforts were made to include people rather than to leave them excluded as usual

It is a good idea to finish the lit review off with a summary of what is known and what is not known about the topic. The latter is a gap that your study will help to fill. State your Research Question here.
