Question
Psy/315 Hypothesis Paper

Prepare a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper in which you formulate a hypothesis based on your selected
research issue, problem, or opportunity. Address the following:

Describe your selected research issue, problem, or opportunity.

Formulate a hypothesis statement concerning your selected research issue, problem, or
opportunity.

Determine your population, and describe which sampling method you would use to
generate your sample.

Describe how you would collect your data, the level of measurement of your data, and
which statistical technique you would use to analyze the data. Explain why you chose that
statistical technique.

Include a conclusion of your anticipated findings.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. The model and sample paper are posted to the
right under Student Materials. Your paper must conform to the model in terms of the four sections of
a research report. Use the model and sample paper to produce a high quality finished product.

Hypothesis Topic

Neurotherapy vs Medication for ADHD Children

You may begin discussions in your Learning Team forum when ready. Your approved study is
described below.
You will be testing the stability ratings of 4 to 14 year old children who have been diagnosed with
ADHD and who are being treated with neurotherapy to stabilize attention and hyperactivity vs the
stability ratings of 4 to 14 year old children who have been diagnosed with ADHD and who are being
treated with medication for attention and hyperactivity.
You will be drawing two independent samples: one from the population of children who are being
treated with neurotherapy for ADHD and one sample from the population of children who are being

treated with medication for ADHD. You will evaluate the stability of home life for each participant in
each sample via an independent samples “t” test and compare the mean of each sample for
significance: two samples; two means – one for each sample.
Note: Use the fictitious “Comprehensive ADHD Home Stability Scale for Children and Teenagers” to
rate each participant’s home stability.
Pay particular attention to the information on the “t” test for independent means in Chapter 9 of your
text – it relates directly to your hypothesis test.
Attached, you will find the data set that accompanies your hypothesis. Your job will be to apply the
formula(s) in Chapter 9 of your text to the data, interpret your results, and write your paper. The
numbers in the Neuro column are the stability ratings of the participants being treated with
Neurotherapy. The numbers in the Meds column are the stability ratings of the participants who are
being treated with medication. Higher numbers indicate greater instability. Max score is 20.

Note: You will be using a two tailed test at .05 significance level to test your hypothesis.

Your hypothesis is stated below. This statement should appear as the last sentence of the opening
section of your paper just before the Method section. See the Graphical Model posted in the
“Instructor Announcements” on the Home tab for an illustration of how your paper should look when
finished. See the Sample Paper for guidance on what information to include in each section.

Your hypothesis is stated below: Use this hypothesis statement in your paper.

In-Home stability ratings of children and teenagers age 4 to 14 years who have been diagnosed with
ADHD and who are being treated with neurotherapy differs from in-home stability ratings of children
and teenagers age 4 to 14 years who have been diagnosed with ADHD and who are being treated
with medication.
