Introduction: One of the most effective ways that we learn is through open dialog.  This discussion board is meant for you to openly interact with each other guided by a specified topic.  Discussion participation is key to expanding your knowledge.
Discussion Board Topic:
During the past 30 years or so, American justice philosophy has embodied punishment practices based on neoclassical principles.  These practices include determinate sentencing, truth in sentencing, and just deserts.  Respond to the following prompts:

What is neoclassical criminology and how are the practices listed above a reflection of this philosophy?
Can crime be deterred?  Ensure to support your response with reliable sources.
