1.  Determine the products if needed. 
2.  Balance the charges within each of the reactant and product molecules                                                                                             using criss-cross method.  Also, are there any diatomics (AKA: dimers, the magnificent seven)to consider? 
3. Using a table, list the reactant and product elements (same list both sides).                                                                                               Count the atoms on each side of the table. 
   a. Pick one element to balance first. Quite often it is the one with the most atoms.                                                                         Place (a) new coefficient(s). Update the table to reflect the change(s). 
   b. Pick a second element to balance. Choose wisely–one whose amount has been                                                                            previously determined by a coefficient. Update the table to reflect the change(s). 
   c. Continue until the number of atoms on each side of the table matches. 
   d. Remember, in balancing an equation, formula subscripts are never changed.  The only thing allowed is adding coefficients.
